Worthy of the Name is an incorporated legal practice founded by Wayne Covell, a leading intellectual property lawyer, trade marks attorney, author, film commissioner and executive producer based in Sydney, Australia. For more than two decades he's advised athletes, artists, bands, broadcasters, producers, television stations, Hollywood studios, sports and government organisations on how to protect and profit from their intellectual property.
With degrees in arts and law from the University of Sydney, Wayne was first admitted as a lawyer in the New South Wales Supreme Court in 1986. He's practised intellectual property law with a leading Australian patent & trade marks attorney firm, the world's largest law firm and at the bar. In 1991 Wayne was appointed the foundation lecturer in post graduate Trade Marks Law at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) where he also taught Remedies and Evidence. In 1993 he was appointed Sub Dean of the UTS Law School and in 2000 he was registered as a trade marks attorney throughout Australia.
Wayne has negotiated many successful and ground breaking film, television, music, licensing and merchandising deals for well-known athletes, artists, bands and entertainment franchises. As a film commissioner, Wayne spent 3 years at the Fiji Audio Visual Commission where he successfully negotiated with major Hollywood studios and producers to shoot their feature films, documentaries and television series in Fiji. He's also represented clients at leading entertainment and intellectual property conventions such as INTA, The Cannes Film Festival, MipCOM, MipTV, The American Film Market, Locations Expo, International Licensing Expo, Irish Film Festival, Mumbai Film Festival, NATPE and the Sundance Film Festival.
Wayne co-authors Principles of Remedies, now in its 4th edition for LexisNexis. He's also written for The Trademark Reporter®, the World Intellectual Property Report and IP Asia.
